App Not Showing in App Drawer? 6 Fixes (2026)

You just installed an app — or you know it's on your phone — but it's nowhere in the app drawer. You swipe through every page, and it's simply not there. Before you assume it's gone, know this: an app not showing in the app drawer is almost never actually deleted. It's usually hidden, disabled, or your launcher just needs a refresh. Here are 6 fixes that find it.

App not showing in app drawer: phone app grid with an empty slot and a magnifying glass

Quick Answer: App missing from the app drawer? First search for it — open the drawer and use the search bar at the top. If it appears in search but not in the grid, it's likely hidden: check your launcher's hidden-apps list (on Samsung: drawer → three-dot menu → Settings → Hide apps). Unhide it and it returns instantly.

Why Do Apps Disappear From the Drawer?

The usual suspects:

  • Hidden apps — you (or someone) hid it via the launcher's hide feature, or it's in a Secure Folder / Private Space.
  • Disabled app — the app was disabled in Settings, which removes it from the drawer.
  • Launcher glitch — the home-screen app failed to refresh its icon list.
  • Work profile — the app is installed under a work profile with a separate drawer tab.
  • Parental controls / app lock — a family or security app is concealing it.
  • Corrupted install — the install didn't finish cleanly, so no icon was created.

Fix 1: Search the App Drawer

How to find a missing app: app drawer open with search bar at the top and magnifying glass

Open the app drawer and tap the search bar at the top (or just start typing — most launchers search as you type). Type the app's name. If it shows up in results, the app is installed and fine — it's just not visible in the grid, which means it's hidden (Fix 2) or your launcher needs a refresh (Fix 4). Tap it from search results to launch it.

Fix 2: Check Hidden Apps

How to unhide apps on Android: launcher settings showing the Hidden apps toggle being enabled

Most launchers let you hide apps, and it's easy to forget:

  • Samsung (One UI): open the drawer → three-dot menu → Settings → Hide apps → remove the app from the hidden list.
  • Xiaomi (HyperOS): open Settings → Apps → App lock → check the Hidden apps tab, or spread two fingers apart on the home screen to reveal the hidden folder.
  • OnePlus / Oppo / Vivo: spread two fingers apart on the home screen (or check Settings → Privacy → Hide apps).
  • Pixel / Nova / other launchers: check the launcher's own Settings for a Hidden apps section.

Also check Secure Folder (Samsung) or Private Space (Android 15+) — apps moved there won't appear in the main drawer.

Fix 3: Check If the App Is Disabled

A disabled app vanishes from the drawer completely:

  1. Go to Settings → Apps and find the app (use the search icon if the list is long).
  2. If you see an Enable button instead of Disable, the app was disabled — tap Enable.
  3. The icon should return to the drawer immediately.

This commonly happens with pre-installed apps after tapping "Disable" to declutter, or when a parental-control app disables something.

Fix 4: Refresh Your Launcher

If the app is installed and not hidden, your launcher may just be stuck:

  1. Restart the launcher: go to Settings → Apps → find your launcher (One UI Home on Samsung, Pixel Launcher on Pixel, System Launcher on Xiaomi) → Force stop. Reopen the drawer — icons reload fresh.
  2. Clear the launcher's cache: same screen → Storage & cache → Clear cache. This fixes icon lists that won't update.
  3. Restart the phone if the above didn't help.

Note: don't clear the launcher's data unless you don't mind losing your home-screen layout — that resets icon positions and widgets.

Fix 5: Reinstall the App

If the install itself was corrupted (icon never created):

  1. Go to Settings → Apps → find the app → Uninstall. (If it's not listed there either, it's truly not installed — skip to the Play Store step.)
  2. Open the Play Store, search for the app, and install it fresh.
  3. Check the drawer — the icon should now appear.

Fix 6: Reset Your Home Screen Layout

As a final sweep, reset the launcher layout so every installed app is forced back into the drawer:

  • Samsung: drawer → three-dot menu → Settings → turn off Hide apps for everything, then Settings → General management → Reset → Reset home screen layout (resets icon positions).
  • Other phones: go to Settings → Apps → three-dot menu → Reset app preferences — this re-enables disabled apps and clears launcher restrictions without deleting data.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did my app icon disappear from the home screen but not the drawer?

That's just a removed shortcut, not a missing app — the app is still in the drawer. Long-press it in the drawer and drag it back to the home screen.

Can a virus hide my apps?

Extremely unlikely. In nearly all cases it's the hidden-apps feature, a disabled app, or a launcher glitch — work through Fixes 1–4 above before worrying about malware.

The app shows in Settings but I can't open it. What now?

Open its App info screen in Settings and tap Open from there. If it crashes on launch, see our guide on apps that keep crashing.
